Wenger’s arrival in English football owed much to chance. He was passing
through London in January 1989 and took in a match at Highbury. Dein, then Arsenal’s
vice-chairman, invited him to a friend’s house for dinner and, over
charades, a friendship was formed that led to him being appointed Arsenal
manager and which has lasted to this day.
